A Hookup Haven

Adult Friend Finder (AFF) Review: A Hookup Haven or a Wallet Drainer?

Adult Friend Finder (AFF), or aff.com, has a long and storied history in the world of online dating and hookups. Founded in 1996, it predates even Facebook, carving out a niche as one of the first adult-oriented social networking sites. In this review, we'll explore Adult Friend Finder's history, features, and overall value, as well as address some serious criticisms.

The Naughty Origins of Social Media

Created by Andrew Conru in response to the explicit content being shared on his original social networking site, Friend Finder, Adult Friend Finder quickly gained traction. By 2007, it was one of the 100 most popular websites in the United States, even earning accolades in the adult entertainment industry and beyond.

If you find yourself tempted to slide into the DMs of someone from your past in the middle of the night, Adult Friend Finder might be a better option. It's a place where you can express your horniness without embarrassing yourself on mainstream social media platforms.

Red Flags: Billing Issues and Skepticism

Before we delve into the website's features, it's crucial to address a serious concern that has plagued Adult Friend Finder for years: deceptive billing practices. Numerous complaints allege that the company continues to charge users even after they have cancelled their services. This is a major red flag and should be taken seriously.

Former employees have even stated that continuous billing was a standard company policy, not a computational error. This is particularly concerning given that Adult Friend Finder charges for nearly every interaction on the site.

While signing up without entering credit card information is possible, it severely limits your experience. You won't be able to communicate with other users or even view their profiles without providing your financial details.

Furthermore, some of the initial messages you receive upon signing up may be from chatbots designed to entice you into paying for a membership, and they will send you right over to the payment screen. These claims have often been made against websites such as this, making it difficult to know what to trust and where to go.

While I obviously can’t prove if these claims are true or not, it is something important to be aware of before you make a decision.

Features and Functionality: Social Media for Hookups

Adult Friend Finder offers a wide range of features, including messaging, private chat rooms, webcam access, blogging, and a webzine. You can also send "flirts," add photos or videos, and comment on other users' content. However, most of these features require a paid membership.

Without a paid membership, all you can do is see limited profile information and receive notifications that someone has messaged you, tempting you to unlock their full profiles with a monetary exchange.

I’m skeptical that the people messaging new users are real, and feel as though it is more likely that they are chatbots who will grow quiet as soon as you hand over your money, never to be seen again.

The site's layout is similar to Facebook, with a slender menu bar at the top, personalized options on the left, messages on the right, and a news feed in the center. The platform also features live cams, some of which are free to view. You can even broadcast your own live cam feed to earn tips.

If you are willing to pay for its features, it definitely does show off what it’s capable of, leaving me with the impression that the website does know what it’s doing in terms of social media.

Pricing

Adult Friend Finder charges for nearly everything, with profile views going for as high as 3 dollars a pop. To send a single message,
